what is a cliticization? o___o

BWAHAHAHA~ I’ll make it simple.

Take the word “Should have”

When we pronounce this it sounds more like “should’ve”

really the [h] and the [a] get dropped and the [v] sound remains. This [v] sound latches onto “should” and becomes should’ve

It’s because of this pronunciation or cliticization that people often spell

“should have” as “should of”

A clitic is a word that is usually a function word that attaches in pronunciation to a stressed work…like “have” is to should.
